An alert eye by a Modesto police officer led to the arrest of three suspected burglars early this morning.
Officer Jesse Gutierrez was looking for stolen cars in the area of Tully Road and Del Monte Avenue when he saw three men wearing gloves and backpacks looking over fences and into neighbors’ yards, according to Lt. Scott Blom.
Gutierrez stopped the three men and discovered they were carrying stolen property from two recent vehicle burglaries. They also were carrying shaved keys and porcelain chips, which are used to break into vehicles, according to Blom.
Jeremy Prather, 29, Nicholas Downs, 27 and Pedro Hernandez, 22, all of Modesto, were booked on vehicle burglary and receiving stolen property.
"It was a great observation by the officer," Blom said. "He took down three burglars."
Gutierrez was in the neighborhood just south of West Roseburg Avenue, where there has been a recent rash of stolen cars, Blom said.
