ATWATER — A juvenile riding his bike on Olive Avenue Sunday evening was shot at by a moving car, according to Atwater police Lt. Sam Joseph.
Officers received a call reporting shots fired around 7:29 p.m. in the area of Olive Avenue and Willow Street, Joseph said.
Witnesses told police a Latino male juvenile was riding his bike when a moving car began shooting at him. The incident happened in the 2100 block of Olive Avenue, according to Joseph.
Police were pointed to the Kings View Apartments on Olive Avenue and Marguerite Street by several witnesses, Joseph said. After checking the area, they found several bullet strikes on the lawn and recovered small caliber bullets.
The 17-year-old juvenile rode off to a home in the 1200 block of Sierra Vista Drive, the witnesses told officers.
When contacted by police, the juvenile confirmed he was shot at, but provided limited suspect information. He could not identify the car or the occupants inside, Joseph said.
Two witnesses described the car as a 2007 or newer full-size red or maroon pickup truck. They told police at least two people were inside the truck.
Joseph said the victim denied gang affiliation, but has prior gang-related contacts with police.
The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to call the Atwater police department at (209) 357-6396.
