Greg Opinski, a Merced Union High School District board member and owner of Greg Opinski Construction, was arrested Monday on a warrant charging him with four counts of bribing public officials, authorities said. Opinski, 54, is accused of paying off at least one trustee with the Los Banos Unified School board in connection with the controversial expansion project at Mercey Springs Elementary School.
A Gustine man hallucinating under the influence of methamphetamine landed in jail Monday after calling 911 saying several people were trying to kill him, the Merced County Sheriff’s Office reported. Those killers probably were imaginary. The guns and drugs deputies found in the man’s home, however, were real, Undersheriff Jason Goins said.
