A 28-year-old woman was killed early Tuesday after she apparently tried to run away from the scene of a crash outside Los Banos and was struck by a car, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The woman, whose name was not released pending notification of her family, was driving a 2000 Honda Civic around 5:37 a.m. east on Highway 152, near Deep Well Road, the CHP said in a news release.
Investigators said she crashed her car into the back of a 2014 Volvo big rig and both vehicles came to a stop on the right shoulder. Officers said the driver of the big rig went to speak with the woman, but she "fled the scene on foot heading in a westbound direction."
Officers said she ran across both lanes of traffic on Highway 152 "in a zig-zag pattern."

Investigators said she was struck by a Toyota Scion as she tried to run through the westbound lane of Highway 152.
CHP officers began CPR on the woman, but she suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.
The driver of the Scion, identified by officers as Gilbert Chavaria, 31, of Dos Palos, remained on scene and spoke with officers, the CHP said.
The driver of the big rig, 38-year-old Enez Barbosa of Kerman, also remained on scene and spoke with investigators.
Officers said both men were cooperating with investigators. Neither man was injured, officers said.
