The local hospital foundation is hoping Paris is just the ticket to get benefactors to open up their wallets.
The Memorial Hospital Los Banos Foundation aims to raise $50,000 to $75,000 for its Community Wellness Project and a regional mobile health van with its “Passport to Paris” fundraiser. The gala is planned from 6 p.m. to midnight Nov. 2 at the Los Banos Community Center, 645 Seventh St.
“We want to fund diabetes programs. Diabetes is a problem in our community,” said Michelle Marchese, the hospital’s philanthropy coordinator. “(And) we’re looking to fund a mobile health van to get out into the community and reach the people who can’t get to the hospital. It gives them access to screening they wouldn’t otherwise have.”
The gala is the hospital’s biggest fundraiser of the year. It includes silent and live auctions, dinner and dancing, and a live band. This year, the group the Valley Cats will perform rock ’n’ roll and pop cover tunes.
Marchese said the foundation committee, made up of 17 members, chose the Paris theme.
“We have a group of ladies that decide. The Community Center will be decorated like Paris and some of the women like to dress up to match the theme.”
Marchese said the gala is important because it allows the hospital to have programs necessary for the community.
“We feel it’s a benefit to the community to have these programs here for people in Los Banos and Dos Palos and Gustine. There’s not another hospital in our area,” she said.
Tickets for the gala are $125. Between 250 and 300 people are expected to attend.
