A couple was robbed at gunpoint near a park late Sunday night, police said.
According to law enforcement a woman came to the police department to report a robbery at 11:02 p.m. The woman, 27, told officers she was in a car with her male companion, whom she met online, near Jo Lin Park in the 200 block of Ward Road when two Hispanic males approached the vehicle. She said the men, who were wearing dark clothing and appeared to be in their 20s, yanked the passenger and driver’s side doors open, pointed guns at them and ordered that they hand over their belongings. Police said the couple’s cell phones and a wallet were taken.
The suspects fled the area on foot and were last seen headed west on Greenbriar Drive, police said. Officers searched the area, but were unable to locate anyone matching the suspects’ description.
The incident remains under investigation.
