Police are warning the public about skimming devices that have been found at local gas pumps.
On Tuesday at 1:11 p.m., the Los Banos Police Department was called out to the 600 block of Pacheco Boulevard after credit card skimming devices were found inside gas pump card readers.
A technician located two of the devices attached to the gas pumps. The devices are used to collect credit card information for identity theft purposes.
Cmdr. Jason Hedden said the public can take precautions to lower the risk of becoming a victim of this type of scam or minimize damage that has already been done.
“If you use your credit or ATM card at gas pump card readers, it’s a good idea to check your statements carefully for fraudulent charges. We suggest potential victims contact their financial institution and request replacement cards and new pin information,” Hedden said.
