The Police Department is investigating a groping incident reported last week in one of the city’s most popular areas for exercising.
On Feb. 21, police received a report of a woman being assaulted between the 300 and 400 block of the Rail Trail.
The woman, 33, told police she was jogging there around 11 a.m. when a male riding a bicycle approached her from behind and slapped her below the waist.
The suspect is described as an Latino male adult in his 20s, about 5-feet-10-inches tall with a medium build. He was reportedly wearing black clothing with a red stripe down the shirt and pants, and a red or black baseball cap.
Police said the suspect was last seen traveling westbound toward Second Street.
“Our goal is to provide for the safety of our citizens using our community’s parks and trails; we have asked our staff to ramp up their patrols of these areas,” Cmdr. Jason Hedden said.
Anyone with information on this crime is urged to contact Detective Sgt. Ivan Mendez at (209) 827-7070, ext. 114.
