The Western Association of Schools and Colleges left Pacheco High School with high remarks after a four-day accreditation assessment, according to school officials.
More than 100 students welcomed association officials earlier this month with a performance by the school band, cheerleading team and thespian group.
This is Pacheco’s second assessment since opening in 2010. “They were very pleased with what they saw,” said acting principal Grace Taylor.
In 2011, the school received the highest mark during its first accreditation, school officials said.

The purpose of the assessment is to ensure a high quality of learning.
To prepare for the assessment, school officials organized a “Focus on Learning Self Study” that looked at all aspects of the school. This included curriculum, instruction, assessment, leadership and school culture.
“We included all stakeholders involved with the campus,” Taylor said, “including teachers, classified staff, parents and students. We met on a regular basis to review the questions presented by the WASC (Western Association of Schools and Colleges) organization and reviewed all test data.”
Emily Shelburne, study coordinator, said the study shows the good areas throughout the school as well as areas of growth.
Taylor said one of the school’s strengths is the comprehensive advanced placement program, as well as a plethora of college prep classes.
Shelburne said the study reflects the school and that’s what the WASC organization wanted to see. “That’s the point of the whole process, is to validate what we’re doing,” Shelburne said. “I think they were really impressed by what they saw.”
Association officials also toured the campus and met with students. “They also went into classrooms to validate what we said,” Shelburne said. “If we said we were using technology in our classrooms, then they’re going to check to make sure that we did.”
Association officials shared highlights of their report but did not reveal the final assessment. The school expects that in May.
