Habitat for Humanity Westside Merced County is hosting a homeowner workshop, Habitat’s Ashlee Williams announced at the Community Resource Council on Wednesday.
The workshop is open to anyone interested in becoming a homeowner through Habitat.
“This is an opportunity for people to become first-time home buyers that wouldn’t qualify for conventional loans,” Williams said.
The workshop gives information on how one can qualify for a home through income eligibility, partnering with Habitat and greatest need.
“Higher rates of home ownership correspond with increased household and neighborhood stability and a reduction in violent crime in a neighborhood,” Williams said.
The workshop is from 1 to 3 p.m. May 4 at United Methodist Church, 1031 Iowa Ave.
“Homeownership can help break the cycle of poverty by allowing families to accumulate wealth through home equity,” she said. “For low-income families, housing wealth often equals total wealth.”
Also announced Wednesday are extended hours for Habitat’s Re Store. The store will now be open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesdays and Fridays and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays.
