Pacheco High School dedicated its second Scholarship Awards Night in memory of former Principal Brett L. Lee, who died in November.

The event was held May 9 at the school theater and brought out nearly 200 people, according to school administrators.

Teachers and school staff presented the first Brett L. Lee PantherStrong Scholarship for $1,000 to Nick Vermillion.

Scholarship night gives local organizations and donors the chance to recognize the successes and achievements of graduating seniors, said Ila Nelson, scholarship adviser.

The evening opened with refreshments and a musical presentation by the school’s band.

“We just want to express our gratitude to all our scholarship donors and the many organizations which support our students,” Nelson said.

About 50 scholarships were awarded to more than 30 students.

Over at Los Banos High School, more than $100,000 worth of scholarship money was awarded to 55 seniors. The banquet, held May 12, began with appetizers made by ag food science students while the Los Banos High School Choir provided entertainment.

School Counselor Christina Fuentes, said scholarship night gives students recognition for all the work they put in during the year and during the process of applying for each scholarship.
