Cal Fire’s Madera-Mariposa-Merced Unit said Saturday it worked on a wild land fire off Alta Vista Road near Mariposa caused by power lines.
As Saturday afternoon the fire was 90 percent contained. No structures were destroyed or damaged, and there were no road closures, Cal Fire said.
The fire started late Friday afternoon and involved 37 acres. The fire burned in steep terrain brush and oak woodland with a heavy grass crop and will require extensive mop-up, Cal Fire said. Narrow roads have made it hard for firefighters to access the area.
Firefighters continue to fortify the fire line and mop up. Citizens are urged to use caution when traveling in and around the area of the fire.Involved were 10 engines, one bulldozer, one helicopter, two water tenders and four hand crews.
Cooperating agencies were Cal Fire, Mariposa County Fire Department, Mariposa Public Utilities District and Mariposa County Sheriff’s Department.--Sun-Star staff
