Yosemite National Park, working with Breaking Barriers, is holding a community forum in Mariposa on Tuesday focusing on socioeconomic and cultural barriers to outdoor activity participation.
The forum will address common barriers, motivations and shared ideas about youth participation in the outdoors. Agencies participating in the outreach forum include Yosemite National Park, WildLink, Yosemite Leadership Program and Adventure Risk Challenge. Breaking Barriers is a National Park Service organization that aims to increase participation in the outdoors by people from "under-represented" groups.
The meeting will be held at the Ethos Youth Center, 5079 Highway 140, Suite B, in Mariposa on Tuesday. The first session, with a focus on youth, is scheduled from 3 to 5 p.m., and the second session, with a focus on the larger community, is scheduled from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. A pizza dinner and beverages will be provided.
Additional community forums are being planned for Fresno and Merced.
