A 17-year-old Delhi girl was killed in a hit-and-run crash in Delhi Tuesday night, according to California Highway Patrol.
The victim was identified Wednesday afternoon by the Merced County Sheriff's Office as Jennifer Arroyo.
The driver, 33-year-old Delhi resident Michael Lindo, was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol after he returned to the scene.
Lindo was reportedly driving a 2000 Chevrolet Tahoe east on August Avenue at about 30 mph when he collided with Arroyo after 9 p.m. about 500 feet east of Palm Street, according to a CHP report.
Arroyo's position on the roadway at the time of the collision was unclear as of the report.
Lindo left the scene after his vehicle hit Arroyo while area neighbors administered CPR and emergency personnel responded. But Arroyo was pronounced dead at the scene, the report states.
Lindo later returned to the scene and investigators determined he was driving under the influence of alcohol, according to the report.
Lindo was arrested for felony charges of first degree murder, DUI causing great bodily injury, hit and run resulting in death, gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and having three or more DUI convictions in seven years, according to Merced County jail records.
Lindo was in custody Wednesday at the Merced County Sheriff's Main Jail with a $1.4 million bond amount, according to jail records.
