An 18-year-old Valley Community School student reportedly stabbed another student Friday in Los Banos and was arrested for attempted murder.
Los Banos Police Sgt. Justin Melden said the Los Banos student, Juan Gonzalez, at about 10:30 a.m. Friday stabbed another student.
The male victim, whose age wasn't released, was treated at Los Banos Memorial Hospital and released.
The Merced County Office of Education, which administers the Valley Community School in Los Banos, confirmed that a student was injured in an incident at the campus, and that school officials are working with the Los Banos Police Department's investigation.

Gonzalez was arrested and booked into the Merced County Sheriff's Main Jail for attempted murder and mayhem, according to jail records. He was in custody Saturday with a $600,000 bail amount.
"The school followed safety protocol and acted quickly and appropriately to prevent further injury," Melden said.
MCOE spokesman Nathan Quevedo said school staff and administration followed protocol. Quevedo deferred further questions about the stabbing to the police department and its investigation.
"Student safety is of the utmost importance for our school staff and everyone who works for MCOE," Quevedo said.
