A Merced resident was arrested after Atwater Target employees positively identified him as the man who threatened them before fleeing the store with merchandise, police said.
The incident occurred on Feb. 10 at the Target Store at 1000 Commerce Ave. in Atwater, according to Atwater police.
Police responded to reports of a theft, but were informed that a male suspect made threatening statements to harm the retailer’s loss prevention employees while fleeing with unpaid merchandise, police said.
Employees reported they were familiar with the man, who they identified as 32-year-old Johnathan Tripp, according to police.
Tripp was arrested by detectives Tuesday in the Beachwood area of Merced, police said, and he was taken into custody without incident.
The Merced resident was booked into the Merced County Sheriff’s Main Jail for robbery with a bond amount of $50,000, according to jail records.
