A man described as a gang member by police was arrested after being found with a gun on Wednesday, police said.
The Gang Violence Suppression Unit conducted a probation search of 23-year-old Jaime Moreno of Merced at a home in the 100 block of East Main Street, police said.
The search about 11:20 a.m. turned up a 9mm handgun, ammunition and drugs, police said. Moreno admitted he owned the gun, officers said.
He was arrested for possession of a firearm and for gang enhancements, according to police. He was booked into the Merced County Jail and remains in custody in lieu of $200,000 bail, according to jail records.
