Two teens were wounded Monday night in a drive-by shooting in Planada.
The victims, a 17-year-old boy and 17-year-old girl, were talking in front of a residence around 10:45 p.m. in the 9000 block of Broadway Avenue when a car drove by, firing several shots and striking both victims, according to Sheriff's Deputy Tom MacKenzie.
Both victims were airlifted to a Modesto area hospital. The female was in surgery at time of the sheriff's department news release, and her condition is unknown. The male victim is expected to recover from his injuries.
The details of the shooting are still under investigation. The victims have no gang affiliation but investigators believe the shooters appeared to be gang members. It is unknown why the two were targeted or if it was a case of mistaken identity, according to MacKenzie.
The suspects were possibly driving a light -colored Chrysler 300M. It's still unknown how many were in the car, and the type of firearm used hasn't yet been released, MacKenzie added.
