A Merced County man was arrested Wednesday in connection with at least two recent crimes, the Livingston Police Department reported.

Luis Gustavo Quintero-Oseguera, 20, was booked at the Merced County Jail on suspicion of burglary and vehicle theft, according to a department news release.

About 7p.m. Wednesday, police responded to a report of a break-in at a home in the 800 block of Eighth Street. Someone had forced their way into the home through a back window and taken an Xbox video game console, jewelry and other items.

“Several residents in the neighborhood were able to give officers a good description of the suspect,” police said.

While at the scene, officers received a separate report of a van stolen from Jimenez Auto Sales on Front Street. A short time later, Merced County sheriff’s deputies stopped the van and arrested Quintero-Oseguera.

Police said they found items inside the van from the burglary on Eighth Street.

Officers credited the arrest to good communication between law enforcement agencies and the community.

“Citizens are reminded to lock their vehicles and keep possession of the keys. Also, be aware of what is going on in your neighborhood and call the police should you witness suspicious activity,” police said.
