A 20-year-old Chowchilla man and his 12-year-old sister were killed when the truck he was driving flipped on Highway 99 on Sunday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The man, identified as Omar Chavez Garcia, was driving south about 5:40 a.m. when his vehicle entered the highway median. The 1998 Ford Ranger pickup went back on the road before it overturned and came to a stop on its roof just south of Avenue 18½, according to the collision report.
The man and his sister, Karina Chavez, were not wearing seat belts and were thrown from the truck, according to the report. They died of their injuries.
A car traveling south on Highway 99 struck the body of the 12-year-old passenger in the road but did not stop. The car is described as a dark-colored or red SUV or minivan.

Investigating officers are trying to locate the vehicle, according to the report.
Both southbound lanes of Highway 99 were closed during the investigation and traffic was diverted at Avenue 18½.
