WHO IS THE SUSPECT?
Details on murder and kidnap suspect Melissa Huckaby:
AGE: 28 (born on Feb. 23, 1981, in Orange County)
FAMILY: Granddaughter of Tracy church pastor Clifford Lane Lawless and wife, Connie, with whom she lives. She also is a Sunday school teacher there. Huckaby has a 5-year-old daughter.
MARCH 27: Sandra Cantu last seen at Orchard Estates Mobile Home Park in Tracy. Search for the missing girl begins.
MONDAY: Farmworkers draining an irrigation pond two miles from Sandra's home find remains in a suitcase. Police identify remains as Sandra's based on clothing and begin search for the 8-year-old's killer.
TUESDAY: Investigators search the Clover Road Baptist Church where Melissa Huckaby taught Sunday school and where her grandfather is pastor.
FRIDAY: Tracy Press publishes interview with Huckaby in which Tracy Police say she contradicted earlier statements to investigators. Investigators search the church in the late afternoon. Huckaby drives to the Tracy Police Department and arrives between 6 and 7 p.m. for questioning. Police place Huckaby under arrest between 11 p.m. and midnight.
SATURDAY, 3:25 A.M.: Huckaby is booked at the San Joaquin County Jail on charges of homicide and kidnapping.
TUESDAY: Huckaby scheduled for arraignment in San Joaquin County Superior Court in Manteca.
