A man shooting cans with an air rifle in a park gave Oakdale authorities a scare Saturday morning, police said. At 11:06 a.m., a resident reported a man in Kerr Park shooting a rifle and brandishing the weapon at witnesses. With extra officers on duty to provide traffic control during the Sierra Hope Ride motorcycle event, 10 officers responded to the park to investigate the possible "active shooter," according to a statement by Oakdale police. Officers quickly found the man, a 43-year-old Oakdale resident with a .22-caliber air rifle. The man was shooting cans. He apparently was unaware of a city law that prohibits discharging a firearm, including an air rifle, in a city park. The man cooperated with officers and he was not arrested or cited, police said.
