SOAK UP SOME CULTURE
The third annual Riverbank Language Academy Cultural Festival will be held from noon to 7 p.m. today at Christ the King Episcopal Church in Riverbank.
It includes ballet folklorico dancers, student dance performances, children's games and activities, science fair exhibits, business and community-resource booths, food, raffle prizes, music and more. There be performances by ballet folklorico Viva Mexico, Chinese Drama Club, Dance Factory, Ha'Awi Hawaiian Dance School and the rock band Emerson Biggins to close the festival.

The city of Modesto is observing Juneteenth today with a festival that includes visits by the Buffalo soldiers, food and craft booths, hip-hop and R&B concerts, youth performances and more.
Juneteenth commemorates the day when blacks in Texas finally learned that slavery had been abolished. They learned the news June 19, 1865, almost two years after President Lincoln ended slavery.
At today's event, the Cartel Band, Capitol recording artist Sassy, local youth poet Rosa Stanley, DJ Honeybee and others will perform.
