A 2½-hour standoff in Riverbank came to a quiet end around noon today when a man apparently trying to avoid being served an arrest warrant surrendered to Stanislaus County Sheriff’s deputies.
According to deputy Royjindar Singh, deputies were about to serve a warrant for domestic violence to the man outside a home in the 3700 block of Texas Avenue. When the man saw deputies pull up, he went back into the home and shut the door and the windows.
Deputies backed off, and called the Special Weapons and Tactics team and a negotiation team. After a few hours, SWAT team members broke a window and threw a phone into the home in hopes of talking to the man.Minutes later, the man surrendered.
As of 12:30 p.m., Singh did not have the man’s name and did not know if there would be charges filed related to the standoff.
