A 21-year-old woman was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries, including possible paralysis, after a crash in south Modesto early Thursday.
The accident happened at 3:35 a.m. at Morgan Road and Whitmore Avenue, just inside Modesto's city limit, Sgt. Brian Findlen said.
The woman veered her white 1990s Honda Accord into the guy wire of a Turlock Irrigation District power pole. The power lines came down onto the car, pinning her inside and delaying her rescue until the power could be shut off. She and her male passenger, who suffered lesser injuries, were taken to Modesto hospitals.
Findlen said officers suspect alcohol was a factor in the crash. The names of the driver and passenger were not available.
