The Modesto City Council on Wednesday unanimously voted to:
— Reset residential garbage collection fees. The maximum residential bill would drop from $23.27 to $22.37 monthly, effective immediately.
— Accept a $4.4 million federal grant to fund 13 police officer positions. The grant will allow the city to rehire eight officers who were laid off in July because of budget cuts. The city will hire five more officers with the money, which covers officer salaries for the next three years. The city must pay the officers' salaries for one year after the grant ends.
— Accept a $1.3 million federal grant for improvements at Modesto Airport. Part of the grant would pay for construction projects, including runway safety enhancements.
Never miss a local story.
