Cleve Morris' job as Patterson city manager is safe for now, after Monday's special closed-door meeting of the City Council.
"We did his performance evaluation, and he left with some direction" from council members, Councilwoman Annette Smith said.
Leaders expect to revisit Morris' leadership in a month or two, after having reviewed him a few times in past weeks.
Smith described public support for Morris outside the closed-door meeting as "quite a crowd. ... The rumor mill was spinning. It was interesting because he has a lot of support from his church members, citizens and staff who were concerned about him being dismissed, but that wasn't the case. It's nice to see how well he is thought of in the community."
Never miss a local story.
Morris took the helm six years ago and previously worked as Newman's city manager. Hughson council members last week voted to dismiss their city manager, Joe Donabed, and Escalon's council fired its city manager, Greg Greeson, four weeks ago.
