TURLOCK -- A 22-year-old man died Saturday of a stab wound after an argument with another man, who was arrested as a suspect in the death, a Police Department spokesman said.
The victim and the suspect were from Turlock, said Turlock police Sgt. Nino Amirfar. Police did not release the victim's name pending family notification.
Police identified a 52-year-old man as a suspect and took him into custody. Detectives declined to release the suspect's name, saying it could jeopardize the investigation.
Amirfar said detectives were pursuing additional information and possible witnesses Saturday night.
About 2:40 p.m., police responded to a report of aggravated assault in the 1200 block of North Olive Avenue, just north of Wayside Drive in central Turlock.
Officers found the victim with a stab wound. He was taken by ambulance to a hospital, where he died from his injuries.
Based on the initial information detectives gathered, the victim and the suspect knew each other. Amirfar said the men had argued earlier in the day and that it ended with the violent confrontation.
Amirfar said the stabbing is not gang-related.
