A teenage boy was shot and injured Tuesday afternoon as he walked along a street in south Modesto, police said.
The victim, who appeared to be in his late teens, was taken by ambulance to a hospital, said Sgt. Brian Findlen, a Modesto police spokesman. The teenager's injuries were serious but did not appear to threaten his life, Findlen said.
The shooting occurred about 4:40 p.m. in the 2500 block of Cartwright Court near Crater Avenue and north of West Hatch Road. The gunfire came from inside a gray sport utility vehicle. Police did not have any further information on the shooter.
Findlen said it was too early in the investigation to determine whether the shooting was gang-related.
