Top-notch math and science teachers working in San Joaquin County are urged to apply for $5,000 awards.
The San Joaquin County Office of Education and the Cortopassi Family Foundation are seeking nominations for the Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching Awards. The winners of the awards will receive $5,000, and their respective departments will get an additional $5,000 to use for supplies and equipment.
Nominees must teach in grades seven though 12. This event recognizes distinguished teachers who motivate students to excel, support students in their academic pursuits in and outside of the classroom, provide leadership in curricular and co-curricular events, and encourage students to pursue a career in mathematics and-or science.
The principal, other school administrators, department chairmen, students, parents or the general public may nominate teachers by submitting a nomination form and three letters of recommendation to Gary Dei Rossi, county assistant superintendent, by Jan. 28.
