Officers arrested a Modesto man suspected of stabbing another man during a fight over a woman Thursday night in Ripon, police said.
The 26-year-old Ripon man suffered three puncture wounds to the abdomen and back, said Lt. Ed Ormonde, a Ripon police spokesman.
The suspect was taken by ambulance to a hospital. His injuries did not appear life-threatening, police said. They did not release his name.
Justin Moore, 27, was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. He was being held at the San Joaquin County Jail with bail set at $25,000.
The stabbing occurred shortly before 10 p.m. outside a home in the 300 block of Orange Avenue.
Witnesses told police the Ripon man confronted Moore and challenged him to a fight. The men argued.
Police believe the men fought over a past dating relationship between the Ripon man and a woman who was at the Orange Avenue home. As they fought, Moore pulled out a small pocketknife and stabbed the Ripon man, Ormonde said.
Officers took Moore into custody at the scene without further incident.
