A man was killed early Sunday when he was struck by a tractor-trailer while walking on the pavement on Highway 99 in southern Madera County.
The California Highway Patrol said the 23-year-old Madera man, whose name was withheld pending notification of relatives, was walking south in the northbound slow lane south of Avenue Nine about 1:50 a.m.
He was struck by a 2007 Kenworth driven by Parvinder Singh Pabla, 41, of Ceres, who was not charged, the CHP reported.
The man died at the scene.
Officers said alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the accident.
