Dusty Killian's decision to suit up for football for the first time set his basketball season back, coach Mike Wilson said, but the 6-foot-5 senior appears to be ready now that the Western Athletic Conference is under way.
He had 22 points, hitting nine of 10 from the floor, and 15 rebounds in a 85-78 win over Livingston. He is averaging 17 points and 14 rebounds in his last three games, and Central is tied with Livingston and Hilmar for first.
"(Against) Livingston, Dusty did a nice job sealing his man, catching the defensive man on the wrong side of the basket," coach Mike Wilson said. "He profited from passes over the top, where he finished layups. Secondly, he was able to benefit from his desire for offensive rebounds. His rebounding is improving due to finally being in basketball mode."
He's averaging 13 points, 10 rebounds and two assists a game.
"The only change in Dusty's role this year is the acceptance of leadership on the court, and what came along with that was being named team captain," said Wilson, whose club has won eight of its last nine games. "The biggest improvement Dusty has made is his work on the offensive boards. He really has a nose for being in the right place."
