The Merced County Fair will hold a one-day mandatory event for this year's fair market beef exhibitors.
All market beef exhibitors — 4-H, FFA and Independents — are required to bring their animals to the Turlock Livestock Yard, 10430 N. Lander Ave., on Feb. 18 from 1 to 4 p.m. to participate in the event.
Merced County Fair representatives said they will be at the livestock yard to ear-tag and take each animal's certified scale weight, and to pull hair samples to be put on file for possible DNA testing.
All independent market beef exhibitors are required to provide a photo of each animal and proof of ownership at next month's pre-weigh.
Those who don't meet the deadline requirements won't be permitted to show animals at the fair.
An information packet for independent junior livestock exhibitors will be available at the fair office.
The theme of the 2010 Merced County Fair, June 15-20, is "Wetlands, Water and Wildlife."
