Modesto police detectives on Wednesday asked the public's help in identifying a suspect in the death of a 17-year-old boy who was gunned down in what appears to be a gang-related shooting a week ago.
Marcos Christian Alvarez of Modesto died Saturday, two days after the shooting, said Modesto Lt. Chris Fuzie.
The shooting occurred about 10:30 p.m. Jan. 21. Officers responded to a report of shots fired and found Alvarez lying in the street in the 1800 block of Bonanza Way, just west of Carver Road and north of Mount Vernon Drive.
Police did not release any further details about the shooting or the investigation. Fuzie said witnesses have not come forward to provide any tips.
Alvarez's death is the first homicide in Modesto this year.
