The end of an era is at hand at Turlock High as Travis Souza and Eric Wetzel near the end of their careers. They have combined for 2,495 points, 1,123 rebounds, 635 assists and 295 steals, but have yet to win a CCC title.
Freshman Souza: Became starter late in the year, helping Turlock (18-10, 7-5) to the playoffs. Averaged 5.8 points, 1.3 steals and a team-high 3.4 assists, twice getting eight.
Souza: Beginning the year at the point, Souza averaged 13 points, 4.3 assists, 1.2 steals and 3.6 rebounds as the 'Dogs (19-9, 8-4) went to the playoffs. He had six games with 20 or more points, and led Turlock in scoring, assists and steals.
Wetzel: Joined Souza in lineup, getting under the hoop for 8.6 points and a team-high 6.3 rebounds a game. Hit 54 percent from the floor.
Souza: Enhanced his reputation as a scorer, averaging 19.9 points to go with 6.4 assists, 6.9 rebounds and 2.4 steals. Scored at least 10 in all 29 games for the 'Dogs (17-12, 8-4), including a then-career high 29 vs. Pitman.
Wetzel: Evolved as a scorer to give the 'Dogs a one-two punch, averaging 16.1 points, 11 rebounds and 1.5 steals. Shot 55 percent from the floor and 73 percent from the line, and scored a career-high 34 vs. Livingston.
Souza: Strutted his stuff by scoring 31 in 75-72 OT loss to Merced, and is averaging 19.8 points and 5.5 assists. Shooting 81 percent from the line, he averages six free throws a game. Has highs of 10 assists and 10 rebounds this season.
Wetzel: Coming off one of his best games, 24 points, 12 rebounds, in Friday's 67-50 win over Atwater. He averages 15.4 points and 8.2 boards and has become a defensive pillar under the basket.
