TURLOCK -- For the second time in three weeks, a co-ed duo of thieves snatched a purse from a woman at a grocery store parking lot, police here said.
The latest purse-snatching occurred about 5 p.m. Tuesday at a grocery store in the 1800 block of Countryside Drive.
Two suspects, a male and a female, were in a dirty white compact car. The female passenger reached out of the car and grabbed the victim's purse as she loaded groceries into her vehicle, said Sgt. Nino Amirfar, a Turlock police spokesman.
The first purse-snatching occurred shortly after 2 p.m. Jan. 12 at a grocery store in the 2900 block of North Tegner Road.
Amirfar said a woman was loading groceries into her vehicle with her back turned away from the shopping cart, when a witness spotted an older-model white Acura Integra driven by a female.
The female drove the Acura by the victim as the male passenger reached out the window and grabbed the victim's purse.
Police described the suspects in both incidents as white male and female teenagers, and investigators are looking into the possibility that the robberies are linked.
Police, merchants on alert
Patrol officers have been alerted to the suspects and the vehicle description, and investigators are reviewing prior police incidents involving Acura Integras.
The town's Business Watch group has been asked to alert managers to be on the lookout for suspicious activity. Police encouraged shoppers to put away their purses and other valuables in their vehicles immediately before unloading groceries.
Police asked anyone with information about these robberies to call the Turlock police Investigations Bureau at 664-7334 or Crime Stoppers at 521-4636.
