Attorneys selected jurors Wednesday in a sexual harassment case brought by a former female records clerk against the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department.
Lydia Lopez claims severe retaliation forced her to quit after she complained of sexual advances by a superior. Bill Pooley, who denies the allegations, was promoted since to chief of police in Riverbank, a city that contracts with the Sheriff's Department for law enforcement.
Modesto Mayor Jim Ridenour, who is a reserve deputy sheriff, and former Mayor Carmen Sabatino were dropped from a possible witness list during pretrial motions. Sheriff Adam Christianson, who is running for re-election in June, and Sabatino were questioned during pretrial depositions.
Potential jurors released from serving Wednesday included several women with Latina surnames, Ceres City Councilman Bret Durossette and a woman who works with Pooley's wife. Attorneys are expected to deliver opening statements today.
