SALIDA BOARD DIGS INTO BUDGET PLAN: The Salida Union School District Board of Education will consider several budget items at its meeting Tuesday night. Trustees will discuss an agreement with the classified employee union calling for a furlough day April 2. They also will consider approving a "fiscal recovery plan" aimed at guiding $3.2 million in cuts to the 2010-11 budget. The plan calls for increasing class sizes to 30 students per teacher, laying off 10 teachers, and cutting two counselor positions and at least three music teacher positions. At the district office, six positions would be eliminated. Some of them are vacant or empty for retirements. The proposal includes closing an elementary school, which has riled the Salida community. The meeting is open to the public and includes time for comments from the audience. It will start at 7 p.m. in the Salida Middle School gym, 5337 Sugar Creek Lane.
STATE OF THE CITY ADDRESS: Mayor Virginia Madueño will give Riverbank's State of the City address Thursday evening at the Galaxy 12 Theatre. The free event starts at 6 p.m. and is open to the public. The Galaxy is at 2525 Patterson Road.
