The next court appearance for Melissa Huckaby, the woman accused of killing and raping an 8-year-old Tracy girl, has been pushed back to March.
Huckaby was originally scheduled to appear today in a Stockton courtroom. She will return March 29 to confirm the date for a hearing on a defense motion to suppress evidence, tentatively scheduled for April 12. The change does not affect the Oct. 18 trial date set for Huckaby.
A grand jury has indicted Huckaby, 28, on suspicion of murder with three enhancements — kidnapping, lewd and lascivious acts on a child under 14 and rape by instrument — in connection with Sandra Cantu's death. Huckaby also has been indicted on two counts of furnishing a harmful substance and one count of child endangerment for two unrelated drugging cases involving another Tracy girl and a Hayward man. A second count charges Huckaby with a sex crime with a child 10 years or younger. She has pleaded not guilty to all counts.
