Deputies arrested a man early this morning accused of brandishing a gun while trying to break into a big rig parked on Eighth Street in Riverbank.
The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department received a call from someone who saw Gail Wesley Gardner, 31, allegedly trying to break into a big rig parked on Eighth Street near Sierra Street, according to Chief Mike Radford.
Gardner apparently brandished a revolver when the man asked him to stop, and allegedly fled the scene. Through an investigation by deputies, it was determined Gardner was the suspect, Radford said.
Deputies went to the Riverbank Hotel, where they believed Gardner was staying, and Gardner showed up and was arrested.

During the arrest, deputies found that Gardner had allegedly stole a compact disc player from the unlocked big rig, Radford said.
Radford cautioned big rig owners to keep their vehicle locked and secured at all times, and to have some sort of alarm system if possible.
