Two Modesto firefighters injured in a Jan. 1 roof collapse are improving, Fire Chief Jim Miguel said Wednesday.
Firefighter Jason Clevenger, who suffered third-degree burns over 10 percent of his body, could be back at work on a modified schedule in as little as 30 days, Miguel said.
Firefighter Jim Adams, who suffered third-degree burns over 45 percent of his body, is scheduled to be released from the hospital Tuesday.
Miguel said Adams had spent "three weeks in a desperate fight for his life" at the University of California Medical Center in Sacramento.

Adams underwent three skin-graft surgeries.
"Your cards, your letters, your prayers, they have all been felt," Miguel told the audience at Mayor Jim Ridenour's State of the City speech.
