The citizens panel that could give the Modesto City Council a raise meets Thursday.
The public is encouraged to attend the meeting, where members of Modesto's Citizens Salary Setting Commission will launch a discussion on council pay.
When the panel last met in 2008, it recommended giving council members a raise to $2,000 a month, up from $800. The mayor makes $3,600 a month.
Last year, several council members took 5 percent pay cuts in solidarity with city employees facing furloughs and layoffs.
The commission can recommend raising, lowering or not changing the council's pay. It meets at 11:30 a.m. in Conference Room 6709 at Tenth Street Place, 1010 10th St.
