Two families are breathing a little easier after hearing from their children, who are Mormon missionaries in Chile.
The South American nation was rocked by a magnitude-8.8 quake Saturday, which killed at least 802 people.
Modesto resident George Rawe spoke briefly with his 20-year-old son, Colton, on Wednesday. And Waterford residents Tom and Ellie Scott received an e-mail from their daughter, Joanne, on Sunday.
The two are among at least several local Mormon missionaries in Chile.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was able to let families know Saturday that all missionaries in Chile were safe and accounted for, but not every family was able to make contact with their son or daughter in the immediate aftermath of the temblor.
