A 54-year-old Modesto woman was killed in a single-vehicle crash Friday night on Highway 99 in Merced County, the California Highway Patrol reported. The woman has been identified as Roselyn Mayen, according to the Stanislaus County coroner's office. She was a passenger in the vehicle. The crash was reported shortly after 10 p.m. after the 1994 Chevrolet had been traveling in the southbound fast lane about 60 mph. The sport utility vehicle was carrying seven people, all of whom are Fremont or Modesto residents, according to officer John Patterson, CHP spokesman. The SUV drifted onto the west shoulder of the highway and rolled up a dirt embankment. The vehicle then rolled down the embankment and came to a rest. Mayen was taken to Emanuel Medical Center in Turlock, where she was pronounced dead. Another passenger, 41-year-old Alfredo Caballero of Fremont, was taken to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto with major injuries.
