Sometime soon, the Modesto Junior College East Campus will get additional parking spots. Lack of parking is an ongoing frustration for many students.
The Yosemite Community College District, MJC's parent district, recently bought some land just south of the campus off Stoddard Avenue where American Medical Response used to be. AMR moved to a newer facility at 4846 Stratos Way.
The YCCD bought the one-acre parcel for $795,000 and plans to reconfigure the lot to make room for 120 to 150 parking spots.
Officials are considering how to use the existing buildings, probably as storage or temporary space during construction projects. The structures might be knocked down for more parking.
Never miss a local story.
The funding for the project comes from the YCCD's Measure E, a $326 million bond for construction projects at MJC and Columbia College.
