Authorities removed what appeared to be a pipe bomb from the front porch of a central Modesto home this morning.
Modesto police and the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department bomb squad responded at 7:09 a.m. to the report of a possible bomb at a residence on the 100 block of Almond Avenue, at Johnson Street.
According to neighbors, the bomb squad removed a piece of pipe about 20 inches long that was capped at both ends, with a long fuse-like cord coming from one end. They found the device near the front door. Bomb squad officers then took it away to be destroyed.
