A woodworking shop behind a house burned Thursday morning, gutting the building but causing no injuries.
The fire caused about $100,000 to the 15-by-40-foot shop, woodworking tools and a small lawn-mowing tractor parked inside, estimated Battalion Chief Paul Spani of Stanislaus Consolidated Fire.
The cause was being investigated but did not appear to be suspicious, he said.
Neighbors called at 8:38 a.m. to report the blaze in the 5800 block of Chenault Drive, which is east of McHenry between Claribel and Patterson roads. The owner was not home when the blaze broke out, Spani said. No other building was damaged.
