Will construction ever pick up again?
It already has, but in isolated instances, and interest appears to be mounting in several communities.
A few cities report commercial development activity. FCB Homes has obtained a bunch of building permits for new homes in Oakdale's Bridle Ridge development, and Manteca is seeing a few new houses as well.
In Modesto, Florsheim Homes is considering reactivating a 26-acre tentative map for new homes at Mable Avenue and Oakdale Road. Another developer is preparing documents for an 80-acre area north of Pelandale Avenue, between Carver and Tully roads. And Chopra Development signs on Dale Road across from the Kaiser hospital promise shops and offices in the near future.
JKB Homes' Morgan Ranch, which could accommodate more than 1,000 homes, is moving forward with a master plan south of Turlock. Other builders are preparing projects in Newman and Ceres.
John Anderson of Modesto's J.B. Anderson Land Use Planning said construction is not likely to increase across the valley for another two or three years. Builders "are filling the pipeline with lots to promote construction then," he said.
