Authorities on Tuesday evening suspended the search for a Jamestown man who went missing Monday evening when he fell into a canal below Goodwin Dam near Knights Ferry, the Calaveras County Sheriff's Department said Wednesday.
Authorities, however, will periodically search for Scott Eric Smith, 43, until he is found, sheriff's officials said.
Smith was walking along a hillside with another man some time between 7:30 and 8:30 p.m. when he fell into the canal, just west of Tulloch Dam.
A Calaveras County sheriff's Search and Rescue team continued to search for Smith on Tuesday along with a California Highway Patrol helicopter.
